The issue with the semi auto ones is they try to cheat the physics of a good blowback firearm. The bolt is underweight for a closed bolt blowback, so the recoil spring is heavy and preloaded. This makes for a snappy, violent, unreliable action. The full auto open bolt ones can get away with it a bit easier due to the advance primer ignition, using the bolts forward inertia to subsitute for lack of mass. All of this is of course aside from the trigger slap due to lack of separate disconnector, and other issues such as mag issues. Oh yeah, I have an early MasterpieceArms semi m-11 style pistol.
Mine uses STEN mags. I bought itfrom a guy who 'couldn't get it to run right' for $100. I replaced the sear plate and it runs flawlessly on 124gr. NATO ammo (Winchester Q-load). I too attached the Blade 'stabilizer'. However, bracing it properly will leave the iron sights sitting too low, so I like the Red-Dot, Urban-Ops has on his. I want that mount With the pistol brace it is a fun little range toy.
Without the brace, it is an unpleasant, awkward, handful that does nothing a G17 with G18 mags doesn't do much better. ETA- I also have an SWD m-11/9 machinegun. The Lage upper turned that turd into my favorite machinegun to shoot. I also replaced all the cast internals parts with CNC replacements from FTF Industries. I have one of the old S.W.D. Cobray M11/9s that I got used back in the mid 80s.
I'm probably the third (at least) owner, so I have no idea what may have been done to it mechanically. All I've ever done is clean it occasionally after shooting. No issues with trigger slap, and it's never jammed once since I've owned it. It's surprisingly accurate for what it is and the rudimentary sights.
And it's unwieldy as hell. It's strongest point seems to be how easily it can dispose of mass quantities of 9mm ammo. My teenage boys fucking love it.
Glad I found this thread, The stock/brace and optic mounts might be just the thing for us.
